PSY 3318 Culture and Diversity in Addiction Counseling

This course provides a comprehensive overview of theories and strategies for the prevention, assessment and intervention of addiction in a multicultural context. Emphasis is given to culture, diversity, stigmatization, and special populations in relation to addiction counseling. The Learner is encouraged to foster cultural humility to work effectively with diverse populations in the field of addiction counseling. Counselor Skill Groups addressed by this course include: clinical assessment; treatment plan; documentation; discharge and clinical care; and legal, ethical, and professional development.
