Graduation
During their terminal course, learners will receive via email an application to apply for graduation. In order to qualify for graduation from a program, learners must satisfy all program requirements, which is confirmed by the Academic Affairs department.
The CGPA required for graduation is as follows:
Undergraduate Degree & Certificate Programs |
Graduate Degrees & Certificate Programs
|
2.0 on a 4.0 Scale |
3.0 on a 4.0 Scale |
Degree Conferral
A degree is not officially considered earned until the degree conferral date is posted to the learner's transcript. Degree conferrals are processed after the learner's final term concludes and once all academic department clearances are received by the Office of the Registrar. Typically, conferrals are posted at the end of the term in which the learner is registered for their final class(es). However, when a thesis, dissertation, practicum, or internship is required for degree completion, or a course Incomplete or Extension is applied, the length of time required for completion may extend beyond the end date of the last semester of enrollment. To accommodate such deviations, degrees will be conferred on the last working day of each month in which the final degree requirements are met. The date the term ends will be used as the conferral date if the final requirements are met prior to the end of the term. Else, the last business day of the month will be used.
Graduation Honors
Upon graduation, the University recognizes a learner’s significant academic achievement by posting the following Honors Designations to the learner’s diploma, based on the final Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA):
summa cum laude |
4.0 |
magna cum laude |
3.75 - 3.99 |
cum laude |
3.50 - 3.74 |
Commencement Ceremony
Physical/in-person commencement ceremonies are held each year. Unforeseen extreme circumstances may preclude CalSouthern from hosting such events. Attendance at commencement is voluntary. A separate fee may be charged for those who attend.
To participate in a commencement ceremony:
- All financial obligations must be satisfied, including the payment of all tuition and fees, as well as the graduation audit fee. All learners on monthly payment plans must pay all current/past due tuition and fees by the established ceremony registration deadline.
- For undergraduate and master's program learners, all coursework and academic requirements of the learner's program must be complete, or scheduled and on track to be completed by the end of the calendar year in which the ceremony is held.
- For doctoral learners, all coursework and academic requirements of the learner's program must be complete, including successful dissertation defense, by the established ceremony registration deadline.
Graduates may participate in one in-person ceremony per completed CalSouthern program.
