MFT 6504 Ethical and Legal Issues in Therapy

This course familiarizes the learner with the area of law and ethics, critical to the Marriage and Family Therapist and the Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Fundamental laws and ethical principles are examined, as well as general theoretical issues. Suicide risk, elder and child abuse assessment will be considered. The learner will also have the opportunity to experience the process of ethical decision making and critical thinking. The learner will explore the complex interplay between legal and ethical codes, cultural issues, therapist's values, and common sense necessary for building an ethical practice.
