Background Check Policy for Practicum and Internship
Select CalSouthern programs require background checks, either for admission to the program or as a condition of participating in practicum and internship courses. In addition, practicum and internship sites may also conduct their own background checks as a condition of placement. These checks are independent of the University, and sites reserve the right to deny placement based on the results.
Learners are responsible for ensuring that all information provided for background checks is accurate and complete. Any omissions, discrepancies, or changes that appear following any original University-required background check may affect a learner's eligibility to begin or continue practicum or internship training.
Failure to pass a site-required background check may significantly delay or prevent completion of clinical training requirements. Because practicum and internship are required components of the PsyD-CP program, this may also impact a learner’s ability to progress in the program or to graduate.
Learners should be aware that:
- Sites have discretion in setting their own background check standards.
- A University clearance does not guarantee acceptance at a practicum or internship site.
- Learners are responsible for all costs associated with site-required background checks.
- If a placement is denied due to background check results, the University cannot guarantee an alternative placement.
